LIST PICK
SKOTT STAY OFF MY MIND (VIDEO)
Scandinavian siren Skott returns once again to not only treat our ears to her glacial alt-pop storytelling, but also our eyes with another cinematic and mysterious visual for ‘Stay Off My Mind’. We recently chose the song as a List Pick for it’s “feel-good pop inflections and a folksy undertone” that transcend into a much deeper meaning as the Swedish artist candidly explained that “it’s a song about missing someone so much that you're almost living more in the past than in the present.” This motif is reflected strongly through the video for ‘Stay Off My Mind’, which flits between scenes of Skott and her friend happily enjoying each other’s company; the singer performing in retro garb expelling that soaring elfin voice; Skott on her own in a bar; and one of the most powerful yet simply shots of the film - Skott, helmet-bound, staring down the camera lens, while memories on a projector flash across her face, and therefore, we assume, her mind. As always, Skott gives us a first-hand experience of the creative process: “The video was supposed to be shot in London, but things were a little rushed... When I got home, I realized we didn't have enough footage to make the original video work, so I called up two friends, last minute at 2 in the morning, and we shot a few scenes in my bedroom; these shots kind of became the main theme of the video.” A great addition to Skott’s Stay Off My Mind EP, already available to listen to here. -HT
